Lauren performs her Poetry selections.The Ponca speech team had another eventful season this year. There were twelve competitors who traveled to three invitationals, as well as Conference and District competitions. Each competitor worked hard and used the feedback from judges to continue growing. At the end of the season, two events earned a trip to State competition at the University of Nebraska at Kearney: Lauren Brickett for Oral Interpretation of Poetry and Kari Rooney & Alexis Anderson for Duet Acting.
Kari and Alexis earned third place at Districts with their "Spartan Cheerleaders" adaptation from Saturday Night Live. They were very excited to compete at the state level for the first time. They worked hard and did a great job in their preliminary rounds, but they fell short of qualifying for finals in some very difficult competition. They are excited to work towards state medals next year.
Lauren earned second place at Districts with her poetry selections about "Women Empowerment." This was Lauren's second trip to state competition, and she was very excited to work toward her new goal of earning a medal this year. Her preliminary rounds scored well, and she earned a spot in the finals with five other competitors, automatically earning a state medal. She performed very well in her final round, and when the final scores were in, she earned a third place medal!
We are very proud of all the hard work these ladies have put in over the last several months, and we look forward to having more events qualify for state competition next year!
