Duet Team Qualifies for State!

The Ponca Competitive Speech Team has had a strong season this year. Throughout the season, 11 students have participated in three invitationals, Lewis & Clark Conference competition, and most recently, District C1 competition.

Abby Sullivan has performed an informative speech about the band Nirvana. Kayla Crosgrove and Alisha Sullivan performed their interpretations of humorous prose pieces, while Alexis Anderson and Hannah Cook presented serious prose interpretations. Zachary Heaton and Christian Rush represented the poets, as they presented their selected poems, including Christian presenting a poem he had written himself. In group events, Kari Rooney, Hannah Cook, Ethan Swick, and Nate Brockhaus performed an oral interpretation of drama.Duet acting was filled by Kari Rooney and Alexis Anderson, as well as Zachary Heaton and Lauren Brickett.

At district competition this past Tuesday, superior ratings were earned by Kayla, Alisha, Alexis, Kari & Alexis’s duet, and Christian. Three events qualified for finals, Hannah, Zachary, and Zachary & Lauren’s duet.Hannah finished 6th place and Zachary’s poetry finished 5th. Zachary & Lauren’s duet earned the highest honor at district competition, placing 1st and sealing a spot at state competition on Thursday, March 27.

There will be a send-off rally for the duet team Wednesday, March 26 at approximately 2:50. Congratulations and good luck!
