Jackson American Legion Americanism Essay Awards

Americanism Essay recognition awards were given to students in grades 3-6 at Ponca Public School on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, by Jane Dillon, president of the Jackson American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and Russ Rasmussen, Jackson American Legion Commander.  

Students in third through sixth grade were invited by the Jackson American Legion to write an original Americanism Essay for the Legion Auxiliary’s annual contest. The 2021 essay theme was: “How can we address the health and well-being of our veterans, military, and their families?” 

 Essays were judged with first, second, and third place awards given in three classes.  The following students received a certificate and a monetary award: 

Class I: Third Grade-1st place: Hayden Gawart, 2nd place: Josh Poulosky, 3rd place: Brayzon Swanger

Class I: Fourth Grade-1st place: Kole Krusemark, 2nd place: Brianna Sprakel, 3rd place: J.T. Stroud

Class II:  Fifth Grade- 1st place: Owen Wortmann, 2nd place: Brooks Kephart , 3rd place: Alexa McGhee

Class II: Sixth Grade- 1st. place: Brooklyn King, 2nd place: Jaelen Templeman, 3rd place: Jocelyn Kastning

Class VI: Special Needs Students:   1st place: Caleb Ketelsen, 2nd place: Brantley Heath, 3rd place: Anna Stroud

The following essays were judged at the state level:  Class I (3rd-4th grade)-Kole Krusemark, Class II (5th-6th grade)-Brooklyn King, Class VI (Special Needs)- Caleb Ketelsen

Caleb Ketelsen’s essay was awarded 1st place at State and he received a twenty-five-dollar check.
