Parent/Student PowerSchool Guide

Final Stages of switching from Centerpoint to PowerSchool

We are excited to report that we are in the final phases of implementing our new student management system PowerSchool.  There are many new features to keep students, parents, administration and staff up to date.  PowerSchool is a web-based student information system with a centralized database. This ensures that data is exchanged in real time and as a result delivers the most current information available on a student. When teachers enter grades and attendance information for their class, that same data is immediately available to the school, district office, and even to parents and students. With a non centralized student information system it can take hours, days, or even weeks to update the central database. This means you could be making your decisions based on obsolete data.

Increase Parental Involvement

With PowerSchool, parents/guardians can access vital information about their children quickly and accurately. They can see the results of tests and assignments as soon as they are recorded, enabling them to intervene quickly if necessary. Parents can check the latest homework assignments and offer their children help with their schoolwork. Day in and day out, PowerSchool helps parents help their children achieve their potential.  The newest feature is the lunch balance and any other fee balances that can be accessed online.  You will be able to see an itemized listing of activity taking place on your child’s lunch account daily by accessing your child’s account and clicking on the $ icon like above.  You can also see your child’s updated attendance record daily.  These are just a couple of the great new features offered in PowerSchool.

Moving around in PowerSchool:  there are a couple of ways that you can maneuver from one page to another.   You can use the back arrow at the top left side of the page.  You can always click on the big Green logo PowerSchool that will take you back to the first page that is the summary of attendance and grades for your son or daughter.  On the bottom of most pages you will see a Print Page icon  that will allow you to print the page you are viewing.

Note:  Please make sure you Logout when you are finished with the viewing and communicating as anyone will be able to access your child’s information if you do not logout.  It will automatically logout you out if no activity after 15 minutes.

PowerSchool FAQ’s

How do I request a Username and Password for PowerSchool?  Each school year each of our schools will make a letter available to new families listing your username and password that can be picked up at the parent/student open houses. We set up an account for every student that enters our school system. If for some reason you did not receive this letter or are new to the district you may request an account by going to your child's school office. We encourage all parents/guardians to receive an account and use it regularly to check on your student(s) progress.

I lost my username and Password. What should I do?  You will need to visit your child's school and request a new username and password

I have signed up for e-mail reminders but I have received nothing. What is the problem?  You may want to log back into PowerSchool Public and verify that your e-mail address is correct and that your host account is set to accept emails from PowerSchool. You also may want to check to see how often you have requested information to be e-mailed. If there is nothing to send, no e-mail will be sent.

I cannot get PowerSchool Public page to load on my computer.Use the link on this page titled PowerSchool Logon. This will direct you to the site.

I still cannot get PowerSchool Public to work.  Make sure you are running at minimum, Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater or Netscape 4.0 or greater. You may try other browsers, but these are the two Apple recommends.

What is a web browser?  A browser is the application your computer uses to access the Internet. There are many available for free to download. Some of these are Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, or Opera. In addition to a browser, you will need access to the Internet through an internet service provider (ISP).

What is an Internet Service Provider?  An ISP is a way you connect to the Internet. Access can be purchased through local phone companies, cable companies, or satellite services. Please check the yellow pages under Internet. If you do not have access through home, work, or don't want to purchase, you should visit your local public library to see if computer service is available.

It takes a long time for PowerSchool to load in my web browser. Why?  The speed at which your web browser can display a specific website depends on your ISP, the site you visit, the time of day, your geographic region, and a host of other variables. A particular site can have too many people trying to reach it at the same time. Your ISP may not have enough phone lines to accommodate large numbers of users logging in at the same time. This is also true for the neighborhood from which you access the Internet. Any of these factors can prevent you from accessing a site in a speedy manner. When a website takes too long to display, click Stop. This stops the web browser from trying to access the site. At that point, you can try again, click Back, Click Home or try later.

What is the best way to maneuver through PowerSchoolThere are a couple of ways that you can maneuver from one page to another. You can use the back arrow at the top left side of the page.  You can always click on the big Red Apple that will take you back to the first page that is the summary of attendance and grades for your son or daughter.  The third way is to click on an icon on the top of the page, under your child’s name.

Can I print what I see?  The best way is to use the Print Page   icon Printer located on the bottom of most pages.

Why do I need to logout of PowerSchool?  Isn't closing or quitting the same? Logging out is the only to ensure no other users can access the information you have securely logged in to view. Please make sure you Logout when you are finished with the viewing and communicating.

How do I contact a teacher in PowerSchool, especially if I get a progress report e-mailed to me?  The e-mail you receive is generated by the PowerSchool Server and not by each of your child's teachers. If you reply back to the e-mail, it will be sent back to the server and not to the teacher of your child. If you want to send a message to your teacher, log in to PowerSchool and locate the teacher in the gradebook and email the teacher.
