Poppy Poster Awards Announced
Poppy Poster recognition awards were given to students in grades 3-6 at Ponca Public School on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, by Jane Dillon, president of the Jackson American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and Russ Rasmussen, Jackson American Legion Commander.
Students in third through sixth grade were invited by the Jackson American Legion and Auxiliary to create an original poppy poster for the American Legion Auxiliary’s annual contest. Posters were judged with first, second and third place awards given in four classes. The following students received a certificate and a monetary award:
Class I: Third Grade- 1st place: Mia Krusemark, 2nd place: Jaeden Hughes, 3rd place: Kora Jackson
Class II: Fourth Grade-1st place: Ellesyn Hrouda, 2nd place: Alexa Swick, 3rd place: Cade Statema
Class II: Fifth Grade- 1st place: Brady Carnell, 2nd place: Lily Korth, 3rd place: Peighton James
Class III: Sixth Grade- 1st. place: Julien Buckles, 2nd place: Abbie Hrouda, 3rd place: Julia McKinney
Class VII Special Needs Students: 1st place: Merissa Twohig, 2nd place: Liam DeRoin, 3rd place: Nate Coffman
The following posters will be judged at the state level: Class I (3rd grade)-Mia Krusemark, Class II (4th-5th grade)-Brady Carnell, Class III (6th grade)-Abbie Hrouda and Class VII Special Needs-Merissa Twohig.
First place winners each received five dollars, second place winners received three dollars, and third place winners received two dollars as awards.
First place posters in each class were judged at the state level and the following students received state awards on their posters:
Class II (5th-6th grade): Brady Carnell-2nd place
Class VII (Special Needs): Merissa Twohig- 1st place
Merissa’s poster will be judged at the national level.
