In May of 2013, the Jackson American Legion sponsored poppy poster contest recognition awards were given to students in grades three through six at Ponca Public Schools.  The following first place posters were then sent on to be judged at the state level:  Class One (3rd grade)-Alyssa Swick,  Class Two (4th-5th grade)-Kaci Day, and Class Three (6th grade)-Morgan Swick.

At an assembly for students in 3rd-7th grades on Sept. 12, 2013, Legion Commander Virgil Kleve representing the Jackson American Legion and Jackson Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary recognized  Morgan Swick and Kaci Day as second place overall state winners in their class level.  Alyssa Swick was recognized with an honorable mention placing in her class level.

Commander Kleve indicated that the girls earned quite an honor as their posters were judged along with over a thousand posters from students from across the state of Nebraska.
