2010-2011 Elementary Student Council Members
Ponca Elementary Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth graders have experienced the process of campaigning and the election process to become student council representatives. Students made campaign posters after filling out permission forms to run for student council representative. A primary election was held to narrow the candidate field after which the candidates each wrote and gave a campaign speech to their classmates telling why they would be the person to elect to be the classroom representative on student council. Each classroom then held a general election and voted representatives onto the council board.
The representatives met Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 from 3:30 to 5:30 for training. Their first meeting was conducted using parliamentary procedure and they elected four people to the offices of president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Parents, community members and school staff attended the installation ceremony held in the elementary library at 5:30.
