II. How is Title I Funded?
How much money a school gets is based on the number of census poor
in the school district and the number of students on free and
reduced lunch (Note: The reasoning for this is that low income
areas do not achieve as well academically as middle and high income
areas. However, selection of students is based on academic need,
not income.)
1. Federal monies are portioned out and given to Nebraska
2. Money goes from the state of Nebraska to Dixon County.
3. Based on our percentage of census poor/reduced lunch, the money
is divided between Dixon county schools (Allen, part of Emerson,
Newcastle, Ponca, and Wakefield). Ponca’s percentage has been
around 14%; the Department of Education calls this a ‘target’
school.
Whether there are 20 students or 1000 students in our Title I
program, Ponca school gets the same amount of money based on this
formula.
