V. What are the Title I Parental Involvement requirements?
*Tip for parents: Just a little bit of parental involvement can improve student scores. Join a field trip, help out with a class holiday party, or eat lunch with your child and their class at school. Without words, your child will know you care about and place value on their education.
1. What is the Student-Parent-Teacher Pledge?
The Pledge is a requirement for Title I schools from the Nebraska Department of Education. At the beginning of each school year, a pledge is signed by each Title I elementary student, their parents, and their classroom teacher basically stating that they are going to do their best this school year. Research shows that when students, parents, and teachers are all working on the same team, students make the most growth.
2. What is the Title I Parent Conference?
The state of Nebraska supports a conference in Kearney every October especially for parents of Title I students. In addition to guest speakers, sessions are offered that are both informational and motivational. Title I parents enjoy meals, share struggles, and get ideas from other Title I parents from all over Nebraska.
*Did you know…In 2002, Deb Gibbs (JD Designs of Ponca) was honored with a Parent of the Year award at this conference? For many years, she has given her support to Title I students. She began by making pillows, and now embroiders T-shirts and caps for hard working students who participate in the read-at-home project in Title I. Thank you, Deb!
3. What is the Title I Parent Involvement Policy
The Ponca Public School Title I Parent Involvement Policy was formed in consultation with Ponca parents and the Nebraska Department of Education. This policy is shared with parents annually. Suggestions for improvements from parents are always welcomed. For the current policy, see VI: What is the Title I Parent Involvement Policy.
