Uhl and Watchorn go 5-0 on Saturday, improving their records to 20-5 and 20-1 respectively. This will be the last time Josh W. wrestles at the 285 spot as he has slowly descended back to a more comfortable spot at 215 to finish the season. Uhl continues to improve winning the tough matches at the buzzer, becoming a heart attack kid for coaches and fans.
Teamwise we were alittle short-handed as several other perennial powerhouses are around the area, Norfolk Catholic has 8 wrestlers, Fremont Bergen 3, Akron Westfield 8, just to site a few. Pender was down last year but has a good group of young wrestlers. Many student arhletes are missing out on varsity competition during the winter season. Wrestling is a tough grueling sport and is not for the faint of heart. Often egos get bruised in the heat of battle not to mention the time commitment to training and conditioning that it takes. That’s where I’m proudest of the Ponca wrestlers, their dedication and hard work.
