 Ponca Wrestling team traveled to Akron, IA to compete in

probably our toughest  regular season tournament, with

top wrestlers from the tri-State area.  The 5 freshman did

not compete as they wrestled Monday in Ponca’s 9/10

tourney. Wrestlers are only allowed to wrestle in a certain

number of events. Also, our Hwt was injured. Six wrestlers

competed, two placed.  We left in a hurry to beat the snow storm,

before team totals were tallied. They’ll send them later.  From

Vermillion to Newcastle was near white-out conditions, travel

was difficult.   This Saturday we compete at the Osmond Invite.

We should have the whole team, all twelve wrestlers, competing

hopefully to place in the top four.  The Howells Invite was

rescheduled to Dec. 29^th. It would be nice if the weather cooperates

the rest of the season.

Our day didn’t start out as well as expected. We only

advanced 2 wrestlers through the first round, and had 2 injured.

Bill pinched a nerve or pulled a shoulder muscle warming up

and Eric injured his sternum in his first match. Colton is still

recovering from a knee injury. But after the first round we started

 wrestling better as 5 wrestlers wrestled  back to finish 3^rd.  We still

have a lot of work as in the lost matches we mostly beat ourselves

with mistakes. We could’ve/should’ve won several of those matches.  

We travel to Howells Dec. 29^th for their rescheduled Tournament.

Parents night vs Heelan is Jan 3^rd here at 7pm.

Then Elgin’s tournament is Jan 5^th.

We needed to wrestle better against Wisner-Pilger, and Bryan.  We were within 3 points of Bryan, so a pin, and another win would have moved us into 2^nd. We probably wouldn’t have caught W-P but their were several matches their we should have won.

We travel to Oakland Craig’s tournament next Saturday the 19^th. It starts at 9:30am. This tournament is a gage towards State. Heelan didn’t show up on the 3^rd for our home dual and we might get it rescheduled.

This week is Conference Quad at Osmond 6pm.  Next is Districts. D-2 wrestling districts are in Stanton again this year. Come see wrestlers from the toughest district in the state. 23 of the top 56 ranked wrestlers come from this district including our own Brandon Watchorn at # 5 @160 lbs. Wrestling starts at 4pm Friday Feb 8th, and at 10am Sat. Feb 9th.  State is Feb 14th-16th in Omaha.
